Have you run a marathon before? Or any long endurance type race? If you have you almost certainly have reached a point of total physical and mental exhaustion that made it all but impossible to think. Some call it “brain melt”and it typically happens toward the end of a grueling race.
Of course exerting yourself physically doesn’t permanently harm your brain. In fact a recent study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences found that properly exercised mice performed better on memory tests than sedentary mice.
Earlier research also suggests that exercise benefits human brain function. What was new about the mice study was that they found certain parts of the brain that effect memory are directly effected by physical exercise.
So what does this have to do with jogging? Running is one of the simplest and cheapest forms of exercise you can do. All you need are a good pair of shoes and some sweats! Why join a gym that you have to drive to when you can just run to the gym and back for free!
Improving your mental function and memory can be done with as little as 20 minutes a day of exercise and what better place to get that exercise than in the great outdoors. Jog through the park, hike through the hills, run along the beach. The possibilities are endless and you won’t be disappointed with the results on your body or your mind.
The best clothing for a jogger are light durable and properly supportive shoes. Shorts in hot weather. And sweatpants in cooler weather. For a very reasonable price you can get started right away. Just make your you check with your doctor before embarking on any exercise regimen.
Stretching the muscles that you will be using is also very important to reducing the chance of injury. And make sure you drink plenty of water. Also get a good heart rate monitor to make sure you’re getting the most out of your running.
